April 28, 2008: HC Fresh Frozen Salted Croaker Recalled

On April 1, 2008, Grand Supercenter, Inc. of Lyndhurst, New Jersey recalled HC Fresh Frozen Salted Croaker, because the product may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen Clostridium botulinumClostridium botulinum is a bacterium that can cause the life-threatening illness known as botulism.

The following product is subject to the recall:

HC Fresh, Frozen Salted Croaker,
Net. Wt.: 16.9 oz (480 gram),
Item # HC 0500402,
Expiration Date: Aug 02, 2009

HC Fresh Frozen Salted Croaker was distributed through H Mart stores including H Mart and Super H Mart in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas area.  Consumers should not use the product, even if it does not look or smell spoiled.

Botulism is a serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin, which blocks nerve function, leading to respiratory and musculoskeletal paralysis. An individual with botulism may experience double vision, blurred vision, dry mouth, inability to swallow, difficulty speaking or slurred speech, muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, and an inability to breathe.
